What is Business Continuity Planning
Universities face unique vulnerabilities when faced with major disruptions like natural disasters, health epidemics, or IT systems failures. While Emergency Response Plans protect life and secure facilities, Business Continuity Planning (BCP) allows departments to continue or rapidly resume mission critical functions like teaching, research, or student housing. Through continuity planning, we can all help maintain the operations, reputation, and revenue of our individual departments and the University as a whole.
CSU has a subscription to Kuali Ready, an online continuity planning tool developed by the University of California, Berkley. This tool produces departmental continuity plans that can be used by any type of department – instructional, research, support, administrative, collections, and clinical. These plans increase CSU’s ability to continue operating in the face of disruptive events.
RMI will be responsible for Kuali Ready training and education. However, we can’t build your plan for you! We expect each academic, administrative and research function to develop its own plan using this tool. We are here to assist and facilitate plan development. We’ve even broken the process down into individual steps that can be tackled month by month, with the goal of completing your plan in a year. Go to our Build Your Plan in a Year page for more information.
