Sally Alexander, Director & CRO

Sally AlexanderSally Alexander serves as director and chief risk officer for Colorado State University. She manages the operations of RMI which include workers compensation, temporary modified duty, ergonomics, international risk management, risk management, self-insurance reserves, purchase of insurance, claims management (liability and property), special events risk management, contract review, certificates of insurance, training, ergonomics, business continuity, and the AED/CPR program.

Sally Alexander serves on the Board of Directors of URMIA (2013– 2017) (University Risk Management and Insurance Association), and is the chair of URMIA’s Governmental and Regulatory Affairs Committee (GRAC.) Prior to joining CSU in 2008 she worked for Larimer County as Risk Manager, and she worked in risk management at the City and County of Denver. Originally from South Africa, Sally Alexander practiced law in the field of insurance law (both plaintiff and defendant work.) She has a bachelor’s of arts degree from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa; an LLB (bachelor of laws) from Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa; a master’s in environmental policy and management from the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado. She also has her associates in risk management (ARM.) She is currently enrolled in CSU’s online master of business administration (MBA) program.

Claudia Brown, Administrative Assistant

ClaudiaClaudia serves in assistant roles to both the departments of Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) and Environmental Health Services (EHS). In her role for RMI, she works primarily with the Workers’ Compensation and Ergonomics managers. She connects injured employees to proper resources, interfaces with departments across campus and helps to synchronize communication throughout the workers’ compensation process. Off the clock, Claudia enjoys reading, hiking, biking, traveling and playing with her dog.

Matt Diemer, Risk Management Assistant

Matt serves as the Risk Management Assistant for the Department of Risk Management & Insurance.  He plays a numbers of roles at the university related to campus safety and risk mitigation.  Matt serves as the lead project manager for business continuity planning across campus, helping individual colleges, departments, and units develop proactive plans for when the unforeseen happens.  He is heavily involved in the insurance acquisition and renewal process and assists with workers compensation insurance programs, analyzing trends, and identifying risks.  Matt also serves to maintain the CSU AED equipment and is a certified American Red Cross instructor for adult and pediatric first aid, CPR, and AED and teaches workshops on a routine basis.  Matt holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Marketing with a Minor in Mass Communications, from Illinois State University.  Prior to joining CSU, Matt spent more than a decade working in commercial insurance, serving in both the agency and underwriting segments of the industry.  He holds several insurance designations including an Associates in Insurance Underwriting (AU), a State of Colorado Producer’s License in Casualty and Property insurance, and is a Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR).  When not in the office, you will most likely find Matt working in his garden.  He is a horticulture enthusiast, and has worked diligently to turn his backyard into a botanical oasis.

Frank Gonzales, Ergonomics and Risk Control Coordinator

Frank GFrank Gonzales is the risk control coordinator and ergonomics specialist for Colorado State University. His work at CSU focuses largely on the prevention of injury through the implementation of ergonomics in all areas of work. Frank has a bachelor’s of science degree in heath and exercise science and a master’s degree in education, both from Colorado State University. 

His graduate studies in the Adult Education and Training program focused on ergonomics education for adult learners. Frank has extensive education in ergonomics through his undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as education through attendance at numerous ergonomics seminars and national conferences held throughout the country. Frank has several ergonomics certifications, most notably as a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) through the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE). Frank is a member of both the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) and the America Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).

Eric March, Safety & Industrial Hygiene Manager

EricEric March serves Risk Management & Insurance by providing health and safety insight, managing liability with regards to infrastructure projects, assists with accident investigations and loss control concerns. Eric manages the Safety & Industrial Hygiene unit for Environmental Health Services. Eric has worked at CSU since 1997 and has 19 years of health and safety experience with several environmental and safety certifications.

Joyce Pratt, Insurance Assistant

Joyce Pratt serves as the assistant to the Director of Risk Management & Insurance. She holds a B.S degree in Biology with a minor in Anatomy/ Neurobiology. Joyce primarily works with CSU and their community members to help with certificates of insurance, insurance renewals, special events, and vehicles. She comes to RMI from FWCB and has been on campus for over 30 years. She is a life-long learner, thoroughly enjoys being part of the CSU community and all it has to offer.  She loves Colorado, but her heart belongs to the beach and ocean.

Nicole Tobin, International Risk Manager

NicoleNicole Tobin serves in a dual-departmental role with RMI and Education Abroad. After serving as the Assistant Director of Education Abroad at CSU, she transitioned into this role which supports international risk assessment, mitigation and response for CSU international travelers, researchers and students participating in education abroad programs. 

As a part of her duties, Nicole manages programs with higher risk activities or in higher risk areas of the world, supervises the program coordinator for Africa & the Middle East, manages education abroad’s insurance needs, chairs the International Travel Oversight Committee, responds to and reports international incidents and serves as liaison for student conduct, campus health services and case management/counseling. Nicole has a BA from University of Colorado, a diploma in Spanish from University of Seville (Spain), and a double-MA from Indiana University. She lived abroad for over 5 years and studied abroad in 4 times (Spain, Mexico, France, Semester at Sea) and enjoys helping others have safe, enjoyable experiences abroad.

Kenda Weigang, Workers’ Compensation Manager

KendaKenda Weigang is the Workers’ Compensation manager for Colorado State University. She holds a master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation with minor in business from the University of Northern Colorado. Kenda came to CSU in 2001 as a consultant for both the Ergonomics and Temporary Modified Duty programs, joining RMI full time in 2011. She has over 30 years of experience in the fields of rehabilitation, workers’ compensation and expert witness testimony for the various lines of insurance.

 She was one of Pinnacol Assurance’s initial Return to Work coordinators, responsible for setting up the state-wide Return to Work Program for policy holders. Professionally, Kenda is recognized as a Certified Medical Case Manager and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.

Rick Wells, IT Developer

IMG_2851Rick Wells provides IT support for both Environmental Health Services and RMI. Projects include general support for the legacy websites, as well as new functionality in the Workers’ Compensation, Ergonomics, Chemical Inventory and International Travel database applications.

Kim Yost, Accounting Technician

Kim 2Kim serves in a dual-department role with RMI and Environmental Health Services as the departments’ Accounting Technician and HR Liaison.  Kim has been with the University since 2012.  Prior to the University, Kim worked for 11 years in Finance & Accounting for First National Bank.  In her spare time, Kim enjoys golfing and spending time with her husband and two children.
